Why is Swarovski crystal so expensive?

Iam planning to gift a swarovski crystal for my sister for christmas,but they seem way too expensive and my friend says they have no re-sale value like other precious stones or diamonds..Is it worth buying it?|||They are hand cutted really finely. Also they are really exclusive so yes it is worth buying for. Some of them are really cheap $40 at its cheapest.|||It's not that expensive. You can find necklaces that cost less than 35$|||I love a bargain as much as anyone and I used to love all the cheap stuff I could find on eBay, but nowadays it seems so hard to find anything cheap over there and just when we're all finding it tougher to just pay our bills.
